Indian Lotus Petals

Grams

Asian cultures hold the lotus flower (Nelumbo nucifera) in high esteem and in India it is considered to be a sacred plant. It's ability to unfold perfectly clean leaves out of muddy and dirty water is considered to be a sign of its divinity. Various parts of the lotus plant are used in the treatment of tissue inflammation and diarrhea. Lotus petals are dried and used as a seasoning in some recipes.

Making a tea of lotus flowers and leaves is great for lowering cholesterol. It blocks the absorption of fats and thus helps lower cholesterol and triglycerides. Tea made from the leaves also helps heal fatty liver disease. Lotus flower tea is a relaxing and soothing beverage and acts as a mild sedative.

Lotus petals are also effective in reducing thirst and the symptoms of inflammation in the body. The flowers contain calcium and iron which are essential requirements in a healthy diet.
